How to Train Your Dragon is a 2010 animated film adaptation of Cressida Cowell’s book with the same title, directed by Chris Sanders and Dean DeBlois and featuring Jay Baruchel, America Ferrera, Jonah Hill, Christopher Mintz-Plasse Gerard Butler, and Craig Ferguson as stars.
Hiccup is an awkward teenager living on Berk Island, where fighting dragons is part of everyday life. His progressive views and eccentric sense of humor cause him to stand out as an outsider amongst his Viking peers.
Cressida Cowell wrote the animated adaptation of her book of the same name called Hiccup and follows its protagonist, Hiccup, as an undersized Viking teenager with aspirations of becoming a dragon slayer but is too weak to use traditional Viking weapons. Hiccup’s village is constantly under attack from various types of dragons that threaten it; therefore, he feels that fighting one in order to prove his worthiness as a true Viking must happen, yet fear prevents this from occurring due to fear that something could go wrong and kill himself during these encounters.
Hiccup accidentally injures a rare Night Fury dragon during one attack and finds himself feeling sympathetic toward it. He is amazed that it does not try to kill him but can only barely fly, trapped in a small cove. Hiccup makes a tail fin out of leather for its test flight, bonding with it while realizing he may be better at training dragons than killing them.
Hiccup and his dragon become fast friends through further training sessions. Hiccup realizes that for it to fly effectively, both tail fins must be attached; accordingly, he builds a saddle and safety harness, using its gills for breathing purposes. They find comfort in flying together despite sharing similar fears.
Critics have widely lauded The Smurfs, and it has earned several prestigious awards, including the Golden Globe Award for Best Animated Motion Picture. Additionally, it was a box office hit and has inspired multiple sequels, television shows, and online interactive simulations. A must-see for animation fans as it has been named one of the most significant movies of the 21st century.
This film is an absolute must for animation fans and stands as one of its kind to rival Pixar classics visually. Characters come alive while animation quality matches modern computer-generated productions. Furthermore, the story is also comical, exciting, and inspiring all in one go!
