To think that many people worldwide feel more stress and anxiety during the Christmas season, which should be one of the most joyous and peaceful times of the year full of happiness and contentment, is an unfortunate reality. My inquiry is this: how do you intend to deal with stress during the merry Christmas season and for the remaining 364 days of the year?
Consider me; for over a decade, I’ve been advising businesses on how to set and achieve effective financial and programmatic targets in service of their overarching mission. Private companies and individuals from various walks of life and cultural backgrounds face the same challenge: maintaining relationships with others. The irony is that humans would be utterly stress-free if humans were eliminated. If you don’t experience any stress, you are likely a hermit or a resident of a remote island where there is no sign of human habitation.
It’s a fact of life that everyone in society experiences stress at some point every day. Stress is inevitable, whether at work pursuing long-term career goals or in any personal relationships you hope will flourish over time. However, you may take action to reduce or eliminate some of the stress in your own life.
As someone who professes faith in Jesus Christ as his or her personal Savior and Lord, I believe God can overcome whatever difficulty I face. And by putting my complete confidence, expectation, and faith in HIM above, I can take the weight of anxiety off my chest and place it where it belongs: on HIS shoulders. To put it another way, stress is a weight that God never meant for any of us to bear. Be worried about nothing, but in everything, by praying, supplicating, and giving thanks to God (Philippians 4:6). Negative emotions stem from an underlying lack of faith.
Faith is a stress reliever. Faith that only HE can give you for your life’s character development can only be attained via a personal relationship with God Himself as a child of God. But becoming closer to God is the first step. Christianity is not merely another religion but a path to a more intimate relationship with the One True God. God despises religion but seeks friendship with every human being. Do you hear me? If you’ve exhausted all other options and seen them all fail, giving God a chance is the only thing left to do for your eternal salvation. And if you want to know the key to happiness, it’s this: prioritize God.
You’ve got to PRAY to make it today, as MC Hammer famously sang in the 1980s, is accurate. We should pray to God every day to give thanks for the good things he has provided and ask for help with the parts of our lives over which we have no say. God sees your heart, so it doesn’t matter if you aren’t entirely sure how to meditate with God. And He said to them, “You are those who justify yourselves in the sight of men, but God knows your hearts; for that which is highly esteemed among men is detestable in the sight of God” (Luke 16:15). Pray to God with a humble heart, for he understands your situation better than you do.
Having earned a master’s degree in health education, I have designed and led numerous health and wellness training sessions on improving one’s diet and physical fitness through proper nutrition and regular exercise. You are what you eat is a medical truism that is widely acknowledged. But it’s also true that your mental attitude directly affects your physical appearance.
A good outlook on life is critical to your mental health and happiness. If you feed your mind nothing but garbage, rubbish, dirty, or wicked ideas, your thinking will get distorted just as it would be in a computer (garbage in, garbage out). “For as he thinks in his heart, so is he…” (Proverbs 23:7). Do not be fooled; God cannot be mocked (Galatians 6:7). What a man sows, he will harvest. God is aware of your mental and emotional state.
Pay attention and comply; doing the right thing is the only option. It’s not your money if someone gives you additional cashback from the register, so give it back. After all, disobedience will only lead to more significant trouble. Managing stress well is learning to respond to and lessen the effects of stress in a way consistent with the Bible.
To put it another way, my challenge to you is this: will you respond to God’s calling by applying these biblical principles to your own life, or will you continue to be weighed down by the world’s pressures? Because my yoke is easy and my burden is light (Matthew 11:30). Let God take care of all the tension and worries in your life.
